What is development?

I believe we all believe that the entire world should live a life of dignity and safety. All people should live a life free of fear or want. Yes, there are some things that we cannot grant to every human being, but I think by now you all know that there are many things that we can guarantee with little effort, i.e. sufficient food for example.
